The NEPA Weight Loss Challenge

Are you serious about weight loss?

Do you know what to do but just aren't motivated to do it?

Do you need a sense of urgency to motivate you?

This event will definitely motivate you!

Whatever your reasons for weight loss....class reunion, wedding, health reasons.....take the challenge!

 

Recently on ABC's Primetime they did a experiment where volunteers agreed to pose for pictures wearing nothing but their bathing suit.  If they lost 15 pounds in two months, "Primetime" agreed not to show the embarrassing photos.  But if they failed to lose the weight, the photos would be seen on TV and the Internet.  All of the entrants but one reached their goal, and she only missed by two pounds.  Primetime created an urgency . . . certain imminent consequences if they did not lose 15 pounds.

 

After thinking about this for a while I thought . . .why not do the same thing locally and raise money for charity at the same time?  The only thing I am uncomfortable about is embarrassing someone if they fail to hit their goal.  However, if it works, the benefits will far outweigh the negative aspects of the program (pun intended).

 

Entrants must be 18 years or older; have a photo id; and have a minimum of 15 pounds to lose.  There will be a $10 donation.  Proceeds will go to the local charity.  The person who loses the most weight will receive a special award. 

 

If you feel that you don't quite need to lose 15 pounds (maybe 5 or 10 lbs.) and would like to take the challenge, you may, however, you won't be eligible to win prizes.  Just keep in mind that if you don't reach your goal, you will suffer the consequences.

Prizes to be announced shortly....

  1. Go to the weigh in at Everything Natural located at 426 S. State St. in Clarks Summit on _______ between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Please remember to bring your bathing suit or undergarments.
     

  2. There will be a weigh in exactly 8 weeks later.  Participants who do not make weight or do not show up for weigh-in will have their photos along with their names posted on this website.
     

  3. It doesn't matter where you train, who trains you, or whose diet you follow,  just participate.

I've been in contact with our present contestants and have had positive feedback from everyone.  Some are right on track, and some are a little bit behind schedule but are dropping the weight. 

I'm hoping that everyone hits their goals and those that have more weight to lose continue for another 8 week challenge.  I realize that some people may not have taken this seriously enough in the beginning and have fallen off target for the just under 2 pounds that they would have to lose per week to have comfortably reached their 15 pound goal.  Some may found out that 8 weeks goes by quicker than they may have anticipated.  Some may even think that I won't publish their photos, but you see, I have no choice if I intend to motivate others in the future. 

Yale economics professor Barry Nalebuff used this theory on Primetime Live a few months ago.  Before it was over he stated that he would be surprised if everyone didn't hit their goals.  All the contestants on Primetime Live did hit their goals but one, and she only missed it by 2 pounds.  I realize that national t.v. may have more of an impact then a website that's not very well known as of yet, but this will change.  Whether I have only a small percentage hit their goals or have all of them, this contest will continue.  

I also contacted contestants and have offered some guidance and some words of encouragement and will continue to be there for everyone whenever they need motivation.
